My guess is that the others were trying harder to seem recovered because they needed to accomplish things, and/or we the audience thought they were likely to recover. This one is not in the main Silmaril continuity, so he is unlikely to meet Boots and get her help.
Now that I think about it, though, they probably could get him free will. Liz is unlikely to have that yet and he does have an upper bound on the amount of sidereal (or, more relevantly, synodic) time is passing. They will probably also eventually learn about gay marriage and, despite what he might predict, that would tell him he was married to Isabella.
