Some bits of Effulgence have been languishing for more than a year now. I'm going to sweep through and say what's holding up the various subcomponents and how much they have left to go. Updates for September 2015 in this color.
Of things already in progress:
Peal Time is stalled wholesale because Pen exited peal-time-syncing via naturally occurring Milliways door and then exited into an unsynced world. The peal is paused until she and they are reunited. Kappa wants to figure out more about what the Batman-world Libby is up to and make accounts with the new Libby and Chris PBs before proceeding from where it is right now. Kappa needs to figure out what the grownups are going to do about Bane. Pen is eight and doesn't have much agency here.
Arceus is waiting for slightly more plot detail than we currently have about what happens between now and pealing, and/or one of us coming up with a more exciting direction to take things than we've got now. Ace is slated to peal at the same time as Chi. Same.
Fantasia has a lot of plot on the way before they peal, but much of it must wait for characters to be specific ages and have undergone various amounts of relationship development and we're short on filler for the passage of time and development of relationships. Same.
Spirit (world possibly to be renamed but that's waiting for me to catch up more on Korra) has one medium-sized plot arc to go before pealing, and then will peal concurrently with Arceus. A key character for the arc does not have an account yet and kappa isn't completely satisfied with the facecasting anyway. We've done the Spider arc now. There is maybe a little more conversation yet to come and then we could peal them with Arceus whenever Arceus is ready to go.
Phaeton is stalled because we want to do a Musical Episode plot and don't have enough lyrics. No, seriously. We have a general shape of considerable plot after we clear that hurdle. Kappa has made a little progress on a song but this is basically the same.
Warp is effectively ready to peal immediately but cannot do this until peal time is unstalled. We might come up with more filler to insert between now and the possibility of pealing T'Mir. Same.
Circle has some things yet to come, but they're mostly relationship development things and we're short on plot scaffolding to prop them up. Same.
Thalassa is suffering from mysterious inspiration failure syndrome. We have principally relationship development without much plot scaffolding planned and it would go better if that situation improved. Same.
Narnia is held back because we're short on fluffy filler to get Eve and James from here to married, and because we don't have enough Christmas presents planned to account for all their time in Narnia. Same.
Opportunity has a problem where the existing worldbuilding isn't sufficient to make kappa comfy operating in the world. If that's fixed we still seem likely to suffer from plot anemia a few threads in. There have been a few worldbuilding conversations but basically same.
Edda isn't technically in need of anything right now, kappa got mysteriously stuck and then we became occupied elsewhere. The blockage might vanish, or persist, equally mysteriously; we don't know what it is. If it does vanish we can proceed no problems. We proceeded. Now we're trying to decide how to choreograph a Thor thing.
Cenozoia has choreography problems (somewhat different and lower-level from plot problems) and quandaries about how to nudge characters into interacting with each other in approved ways. It has a great deal of plot still to come. Same.
Avalon would benefit from fluff to get Katie older without a giant question mark where her family relationships are. When she's older we can introduce other key characters, although we don't have anything much for them to do, yet. Same.
Tayane is missing some plot, although in a pinch there's an obvious milestone we can skip to. Same.
Quinn is missing plot too, and likewise has an obvious target milestone if we give up on filling significant quantities of intervening time. Same.
Cosel is waiting on an account with finished icons for Fire but otherwise has no serious problems on the horizon. It looks to be a fairly short and sweet plot until it peals. Same. Somebody please talk kappa into pythboxing Fire, I'm dying here.
Equestria has choreography problems and we're having trouble adapting episode content into good filler as we trundle along. Same.
Garden lacks plot scaffolding and in the meantime we haven't figured out what Gothel is up to offscreen. Same.
Nexus is proceeding along at a rate limited principally by kappa's brain's cooperativeness with doing things-at-all. Same.
Superluminal we know what's to happen more or less but kappa's mysteriously unable to produce Vorkosigan parents to happen it.
Names we need a Bell-and-a-Sherlock-highly-motivated-with-months-to-think quality plan to sweep the Queenscourt. That's kinda hard.
Rewind has no obvious obstacles except maybe worldbuilding disagreements and of course kappa's mercurial brain to proceeding apace.
Of forthcoming 'verses mentioned in Roll Call but not yet threaded:
We've barely thought about Guardian in ages. If we got excited about it again, it would require plot adaption and some worldbuilding work. The basic concept is potentially adaptable to non-Effulgence formats. Still nothing.
Midnight has already been forked into Incandescence, which makes it low-priority in Effulgence, but it might still happen. No longer even an Incandescence thing, what with the death.
Oz would require lots of prep work and agreeing on lots of worldbuilding and we'd need a plot. It's exciting but very skeletal and daunting right now. Same.
We really do want to do Pacifica but don't have enough material to propel a character who must begin as a child into adulthood yet, and can't do anything else there first. Same.
Gem's world, yet unnamed waits mostly on me re-watching the rest of Madoka, which will take a while to get around to unless gamma continues watching the series so I can sit next to him and passively absorb it. This process is three of twelve episodes through. We will then have choreography quandaries and kappa would have to make some accounts. In progress.
Summer's world, yet unnamed fails to be overwhelmingly exciting and we probably won't do it anytime soon. Same.
Everlasting has about the same problem, although it's a little more interesting than Summer's story. Same.
Cape is riddled with timeline problems that we are sort of scared to poke. When those are resolved it's pretty much ready to hit the ground running. Same, but with less recent thought put into it so maybe it's a little worse.
Names has been adapted into a sandbox with Aestrix but this doesn't strongly deemphasize its Effulgence priority, but it doesn't have much plot. We started this.
Alucine has worldbuilding to be built, accounts to be accounted for, plot to be plotted, and choreography to be choreographed. But it's very interesting so it'll probably grab us at some point. Same, basically, plus the nudge things get when I go sandbox stuff from them, so maybe a bit better.
Raven's world, unnamed is suffering timeline issues which are, again, scary. Raven herself is seeing some play in the glowfic "Lumos" I'm doing with Marri, although fine details of worldbuilding and cast of characters would not persist identically into Effulgence. Plans have been reshuffled; there is some remaining backstory figuring to happen but we cheated on the timeline issue.
Forthcoming 'verses not yet in Roll Call:
We're going to do a variant Vorkosiganverse, named Superluminal. This is exciting enough, and draws on similar-enough prep work to Nexus, that it might happen very soon. It fuses the Vorkosiganverse with Skin Deep (canon for Incandescence's Medallion) with some different worldbuilding details to accommodate kappa's tastes. We started this.
If you have read kappa's entertaining , we're vaguely considering Belling the world & magic system and this has made it as far as our reserve spreadsheet but would require more hashing out of worldbuilding and plot before it got anywhere. It's not a high priority. Still not a priority.
There are a few worlds kappa wants to introduce that don't contain any green-moiety characters, so he can drop them into the story anytime pretty much once the peal's proceeding forwards again, but none of them loom very near. Haven't heard much about this in a while.
We might do the Sharing Knife series with a Bell loosely as Fawn and a Joker loosely as Dag. I haven't read all the books, but when I have read the rest of them we're about ready to transplant the plot. I don't like the books nearly as much as I like the Vorkosigan books so this could definitely take a while. Still haven't read more than the first couple books and don't like them enough to make it a very near term plan.
We kind of want to Bell-and-Joker the Lindworm fairy tale. I think this is also happening with an Adana in place of a Bell in a future Pixiethread? It is appealing but does not feel urgent. It has crossed my mind that the idea might be simple enough that we could just sandbox it instead of developing it enough to withstand the force of the entire peal crashing down on it. Haven't had that cross my mind while kappa was online.
There's some original worldbuilding notions in our vague notions sheet that I don't want to fully explain here, but some of it might happen someday maybe!
We very badly want to Effulge by Wildbow (author of Worm) but since Wildbow is... Wildbow, we don't want to commit to a plot trajectory until the canon is good and done. He updates pleasingly regularly and we have many fledgeling notions but I expect that handling the worldbuilding in a way that we can both understand and agree on will prove really complicated whatever Wildbow does with the story. So, uh, I stopped reading Pact partway through and haven't mustered the energy to go on. I'm less excited about this now but it could happen eventually.
We also kind of want to do this one TV show "Listener" with a purple'd Toby and a Bell between whom there may be Ethical Awkwards, but have no plot, have not even seen the entire show because it looked to both of us like it was cancelled before it was in fact any such thing, and haven't tended to generate excited squealing about it left to our own devices. Have not watched this. Might also better suit a sandbox than an Effulgence.
Selected other highlights from the notions sheet that are probably less soon/likely than the aforementioned: Teah (of sandbox fame), Pretear, Willy Wonka Joker, daeva of the Incandescent variety, the Matrix, Barashi sans Elcenia, Ade's elephants setting, others of lesser note. I think Teah and daeva are sandboxy. Everything else is not an Effulgence priority.
