I have forgotten, is there a compelling reason for Katydid and Rain to not get daemons and then just separate and leave them cuddling somewhere very very safe, like in an underground shelter on Ice's world or under the Belfry or something? None of their personal enemies will know that daemons are a thing to want to go harm them, and no one on Ice's world is going to know about them to seek them out nor would they accidentally daemon-touch, and the entire Incandescent Peal will want to protect them, so the danger really seems very remote, while the benefits are possibly quite high. They could even potentially create magic items (linked mirrors, for example) or technology to allow their daemons to remotely keep tabs on them and communicate with them. Is there something I'm leaving out of my danger calculations or do they really find that very minuscule potential risk to be not worth the evident emotional-relational benefits? (They are probably more risk-averse than I am, so I suppose it really may be just that. It just seems silly to me, considering how much they harp on it and yet continue to dismiss it.)
