I think referring to the list is not very in the spirit of the thing (and you are supposed to only get one guess at a time) but okay.

Yes: barren (merely not currently on the list)
No: loin (swapped from "loan")

“Nothing currently on the NO list, with zero or more vowels swapped out for other vowels”

Yes: coon (swapped from "coin")
No: incident (another arbitrary word)

I vaguely suspect it might have something to do with ascenders and descenders, where a word is more likely to yes if its ascenders are on the left and its descenders are on the right.
