I don't remember what we decided would happen if Keo talked to a real mafioso.

A really fun thing would have happened if Rhysel would have given kamai to mafia members! For one thing, Aziel would have been notified that Rhysel had empowered some scum, and would have had to try to kill Rhysel after that (but could also have potentially milked it for information on who was scum, based on timing). And, the mafioso with the new magic would have gotten to use it but would have acquired an Oris-like win condition. If Rhysel had managed to survive giving all the mafia powers (Tulip last, obviously) then it would have been impossible for whoever in the mafia handled the endgame to win themselves.

So I feel like defending my decision to pick modrony as the new demon host in response to the discussion that I see took place in the spectators’ chat:

You thought Tamien would have been a better choice, and yes, knowing what I know now, she would have been; but I don’t think I could have reached that conclusion given the evidence I had at the time. If I hadn’t picked modrony, and he’d targeted me on that night, he would have been able to identify the new demon host immediately, point that out to everyone, and get the new host lynched. It seemed to me reasonably likely that he would target me, given that I was suspected to be the demon at the time, so I felt at the time that modrony was the only reasonable target.

On a lighter note,
(07:57:54 PM) wolffreak567: I wonder if I would have noticed that he was possessed if I had survived night 2
(08:01:13 PM) PDV: He doesn't seem to have been good at playing it cool, so I'm guessing yes
Yes, I would have found it very difficult to hide my identity as the demon if I’d have also had to pretend my innocence in the communication channel. I am lucky that I survived long enough to pass the demon on.

If anyone’s interested and none of the participants have any objections, I’ll post the link to the Google Doc which was used for both the Mallyn/Rithka communication channel and the demonic communication channel.

no objections, mtc. Maybe for readability the mafia day 7 that i pasted in should be either removed or pasted at the bottom of the document instead since everyone can read that already. less scrolling that way.

If future masonries also have subforums, that would minimise the amount of information that can be gleaned just from "the postnumbers are jumping about", because it could be two town players discussing something together, it could be the mafia discussing something together, it could be a neighbourhood (two players that don't know each other's alignments). It would require a few extra subforums but I think it would eliminate the "certain people are online and there are hidden posts happening" thing.

We could also require people to hide their online status. or to just try not to metagame it because a person being online and not posting anything publically doesn't really mean anything. what if they aren't feeling talky but want to get caught up.

another thought:

there is a thing called hydra. It is when 2 (or more, but let's say 2 for minimising chaos) people make a joint account together with a shared password and it is publically known who the two people are that are in control of the account. the account is assigned one role pm. the two players must both post as the hydra account and they can work together in private. if one of them gets sick or has exams, it's less of a big deal because the other one will still be posting, but they should both be trying to post and have their own reads. it almost guarantees that the slot will be more active. Also if I'm hydraing with someone I don't know all that well we might have different circles of friends, so people from my circle are more likely to be able to read my half of the slot more accurately and the other half's friends are more likely to be able to read that half better. The downside is a little more chaos and it would probably be chaotic if there were lots of hydrae but if it was limited to just a few per game that would be okay.

I would like to hydra at some point, with anybody at all; I'm not picky. But I'd like to wait until I have a town game under my belt that you guys can use as a baseline for me because I've been town for only 1 dayphase in 2 whole games and that was a long time ago and I was more clueless back then.

while we're not in a game, if anyone wants a PM with my username on the other site where I have been town a bunch of times (3 completed games) let me know.

Nothing has happened in the dead players’ chat since I posted the logs. The logs are here, and the chat was at #downtownpridetaal on psigenix.

Hydras would require more players, and instead we have fewer players, Shoal. I don't object in principle but it's something I'd do in a fuller game than it looks like future ones will be.

The reason we thought modrony was a bad choice was that it looked very likely that modrony wouldn't survive until morning. You were a very little bit suspicious, he was both pissing off town and revealed as a power role, so there was a high chance of him being lynched and a high chance of being nightkilled. Look at what did happen on Night 4: Alpha watched modrony, and demons were saved only because the mafia killed Alpha.

I agree that your actions made sense if you were considered a very suspicious person, but I think you way overestimated the degree to which that was true. That's definitely a common mistake, people get panicky.

I'd definitely like to see the doc.

that’s a good point Alicorn, but i was thinking maybe for a smaller game based on a short story with a short cast list. this would also make for a shorter mafia game if people are overwhelmed with the chaos of larger ones.

Okay, PDV, that reasoning makes more sense that what I can see in the spectators’ chat. I guess I’ll put it down to my inexperience playing mafia.

There don’t seem to be any objections, so here’s our Doc. I should note that it doesn’t contain all of our private communication, a lot of discussion happened over PMs, Skype and IRC.
